A Blustery Night

In serene stillness
With candles aflame
Two voices joined
By the breath of the Wind

Gentle gusts scuttle
An oblivious leaf
Over naked ground
To the juniper’s roots

Quiet words quelled
When ardent flames flicker
A tempestuous cadence
Tinged with urgent growls

Two pairs of ears
Strain to hear
The anguished silence
On reticent lips

And comes the shriek
A great howl unleashed
Rips the souls of trees
From trembling limbs

Two hearts throbbing
As the piercing blast
Rattles shivering walls
And two mouths cry out
