Cosmos Echoes

A 3.8 billion-light-year galaxy
with a supermassive black hole
that has swallowed a bypassing star.

A pale shimmer
Beyond her darkened face
A fragranced effusion
Along a vaulted trajectory
So far and away
At last receiving
Our hypnotic whispers

The doomed star
In a black hole’s grasp
The fading light
And flickering dust
Burning out
Her death cry
A wrenching echo
