Pacifica

Yaquina Head Newport, Oregon           Your gentle hand A healing balm The call to rest A bee’s nest calms Amid voices shrill We tend our fears A war is raging The boot stamp nears Ocean’s song O’er passions spread No hearts shall bleed Nor tears we’ll shed Calumny tales To our ears burn Salt mist sprays The graceful tern Turn away the notes Of riotous creed Breathe sweetened air From a blossom freed LiNdA...

A Muted Voice

Words unspoken In a silent room Their meaning carried On a falling leaf The leaf that fell From your hair As you passed beneath A drooping branch A voice unnecessary For your visit this night The voice of a Muse Need not roar A hushed murmur Indeed a whisper Has volume enough To penetrate the void The distance between us Marked in time But not intent For you are ever present In the spaces between The days are numbered The voice sublime As a rhythmic harmony And your quiet utterance Fragrantly sweet As a sliver of a moon Crushed in lavender...

Solstitium Pluit

6th century mosaic pavement Beit Alph Synagogue, Israel           In the longest night An abundant sky Sheds celestial tears On a desolate planet Wrapped in the arms Of my astronomad We orbit the Earth On a lithic asteroid Our Elysian chambers Warmed by effluvium drifts A deepening repose For star-struck voyagers The Solstice Star Blinks noiselessly A shimmering note On our nebulaic bed Then a headfirst plunge Near the axial tilt Clinging to stardrops We return to Earth...

De Belleza

Joshua Tree, CA           An Ode to the Beauty of California A desert blush Warms a somber image A pile of stones Randomly placed By an ancient hand Through which a mighty river once ran With glints of gold and silver Carried from a northern land The precious metals Less precious than that which bore them And now through a cracked landscape Erupts a cacophony of colors Nodding heads and smiling eyes Sing praises to the sky The song to become their requiem Voices of exultation arise Springing from this riotous choir Their power unrestrained Though the chorus is whispered And the finale gently breathed The mountains echo the Sacred Wind Tinged with granite And here we will lie down Between the scorpion and the cactus To honor this hallowed valley...

Equinox

Intihuatana Stone – Machu Picchu, Peru Photo via imagesofanthropology.com           A shadow melting In a granite bed The Sun a sacred passion And from a barren branch A brown leaf falls Now crushed beneath its foot Conveyed on a celestial carriage Our eventide murmurings No less than the coming dawn Sweet kisses dropping Like crimson petals Upon balanced scales Golden shimmers As radiant tresses Clasped in a velvet wrap Upon a stone We shall set The Light So, too, the Stars this night...

August, Comes the Night

Cherokee, California   For now even the Sun Scorching in his sulky ways Sullen and moody Soon will expire His fiery fingers slacken On the length of days And Night reaches out A gentle hand Imperceptibly soft and cool A dewy caress on a burnt cheek Though the fireball rages still In the advent of his repose Among the twinkled lights Messengers from distant realms Anoint a pair who slumber Illuminated in a candle’s prism The essence of argan radiating Sweetness and nectar Released from heated stones Refreshed by Zephyr’s breath Under the deepened heel of Night A blade of grass is crushed Unlike the knife steel Struck on Tomorrow’s anvil LiNdA...
