Moondrops

Total Lunar Eclipse, April 4, 2015 Dean Hooper – Melbourne, Australia     A copper blush Edges her cheek A fleeting smile Before she sleeps She turns her eye To the valleys of rock Of boulders and canyons To the realm where He walks Her face deep in shadow A kiss before dawn Her lover has journeyed She now lies alone LiNdA

Descanse en Paz, Gabo

With mourners’ eyes Do we read the words And ponder his magic In a story now blurred Tales of lovers And of hearts that beat Of wars that were waged With victr’y bittersweet Finding ourselves In each stanza written A song of life From the apple bitten   LiNdA

Heat

Beneath the golden slumbers The Earth’s sweat rises, Released from dark caverns And Tempered rock A small fissure becomes a vein For the Mother’s blood Pulsating to ancient rhythms Forcing its way upward All that stand before it Are consumed, Pulverized and melted Liquefied into one A glorious force Of Energy and Life Issues forth from the Sacred ground And from the sweat and the blood and the heat Arises a New One Borne of the joining of creatures And the death of their longing...

Frosty Night

You arrive on the breath of winter As silent as the snow Not yet fallen Enter, my friend I’ve been waiting for you But did not know you were coming     Come, warm yourself at the hearth Put out your hands To the fire that hasn’t been lit I shall set match to candle instead Watch the shadows play To a miniature fire burning brightly The music of your heart Murmurs seductively Foretelling the sacred hour When you return to the night And the bite of the hoarfrost Where winter will triumph...

Oíche Geimhreadh

Standing stones of Callanish, Isle of Lewis, Scotland             The Ancient One huddles At the edge of the circle Casting his eyes to the celestial spheres Whirling in the immensity of the heavens The Pleiades ascend the Eastern arch The tears and sorrows Of the millennium Follow them The Great Stones of Calanais Rise strong and resilient Sentinels of silence Awaiting the lunar standstill Upon the hoarfrost Fathers prostrate themselves To the sound of a mother’s keening A pair of wrens nestles nearby Sacrifices and prayers offered For the return of the Sun Snatched by the wail of ghostly winds That moan through the monoliths The old crone etches timeless spirals into barren earth Long fingernails rhythmically scraping Maidens clutch their cloaks ’round their bellies Weeping for the unborn and unconceived A child-boy raises his face skyward Eyes shining in the Pleiades’ embrace Unheeding the bitter cold and gathering storm A smile playing upon his lips The Toothless One cackles Delight in the boy’s understanding His chilling laughter shoots Arrows of ice from his mouth LiNdA    ...

E.A.P

Poe Mosaic by Mike Keith, created using pieces of illustrations by Gustav Doré and James Carling for “The Raven”   Unnamed Narrator What will be your thought On the events having thus taken place   You, who come and dwell Among the demented and the wicked To watch the darkness descend But wait, There is no gloom here Only the warm glow of candles Lighting an expression of love The love you have sorely missed For Life’s cruel fingers have torn it from you But stay, and rejoice For the pleasures of another Can love in you rekindle Listen to the whispers Do you think the words sentimental? They come from hearts that are flowing You long to be enfolded So languid and inviting is the embrace Yet your heart turns cold You will close your eye To the love And write of the madness LiNdA...
