A Cello in My Ear

Antique handmade miniature cello
Martin Cullier, Paris – 1907

A cosmic string
Drawn out and vibrating
A deepening tone
Filling my left ear

I listen to your words
A murmurous hush
Held against
The ebony fingerboard

Your voice draping softly
A sonorous arco
Touching my face
With mellow resonance

The euphonious cadence
Of a rhythmic dilation
Brings the cello song
To prominence
