Depiction of possible aurora
over Nuremberg, Germany
28 December 1560
Above the rooftop
The Moon suspended
Her gleaming mask
Waning gibbous
And there was dancing
Beneath the Roman tiles
For the ceiling as the floor
Both planed from wood
For a song dispersed
To a bashful heart
Carries a note
Of just-pressed wine
The stanza lingers
Among billowing folds
A forgotten message
Pleads a whispered escape
Wrapped in fleeting gauze
A nimbus hovering
O’er the distracted gaze
Of your hidden eyes
While the flickering tongues
Of burning embers
Soften the nature
Of unyielding destiny
A hypnotic trance
Inhabits a darkened plum
Your words echo sotte voce
Under the spell of El Condór
