The Labyrinths of His Own Belly Button

En memoria Eduardo Germán María Hughes Galeano

Thus began the great love affair
That spurted blood through open veins
The love and blood spilled from the sun
And congealed in the shadow

The drops of blood ran
As beads of sweat
Glistening down our backs
Which we captured in our cupped hands

We, the children of days, drank the love and the blood
And partook of the same sanguine ecstasy
Erupting in the fire of a memory
When we masked our faces and took to the wind

Until we flew upside down on the breath of the monster
That dropped us on a summit and we swam in two oceans at once
And our masks fell off and we looked in the mirror
And beheld the truth of the matter
