Xochiquetzal

Xochiquetzal

Caressed within
Shimmering walls
Of a jade temple

Flowing rivers
Anoint and bathe
Preparing the blossom

But the unforeseen path
Has revealed itself
To our destined Queen

Written in ebony and cacao
Premonitory words
A metamorphosis mutation

We await with vigilant eye
The transcendent event
Centuries unfolding

From the time of the gods
And fire volcanoes
That will spit forth your ambered petals

And we pray for them
Your unborn wings
To convey our souls

To the next life in a forest of firs
Your wings beating as a soft rain
To arise again from steaming mists

The Fertile Rituals
We re-enact amidst amethyst streams
To honor you, our Precious Flower

Xochiquetzal II

A cloak of green
From which streams of purple flow
A Prince comes in homage paying
As well to reign enduring

The glass breaks
But the candle remains
Lit and burning
A soul stirring

Our knees pressed
Into lavender arms
Balm from bruised fronds wafting
A pannier of amaranth and silver

We alight upon your ambered petals
Flightless, molten pinions
Our broken bodies crying out
Cradled on feathered bittersweet

Hearken, Death’s song
The soft rain of wings beating
Stilled before the fir forests
Of steaming mists

A realm beyond the jade temple
And walls of glistening crystal
Where we, too, have dwelt
In the Time of Gods, as gods

And the fire volcanoes
That spewed lava wings
Now your burial shroud
That we may cling to flight
